DARIO MARIANELLI GUEST OF OPEN BOCCHERINI

The concert-giving and teaching activities of ‘Boccherini Open 2016’ continue in May with important appointments and a recording of great historical value for the city’s musical traditions. Guest star of the Institute’s open day on May 28th will be Dario Marianelli, a composer who won the Oscar Prize in 2008 for the soundtrack of the film Atonement.

 

Saturday, May 28th  will also be Open Day. The Institute will enliven with conferences, lectures and open rehearsals, tours, shows and performances. Teachers and pupils will welcome and guide visitors in the discovery of one of the most prestigious musical institutions in Italy. Special guest for the day will be Dario Marianelli, Oscar winner in 2008 for the soundtrack of the film Atonement.
This talented composer, born in Pisa in 1963, who studied piano in Florence and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, has had a short but intense career. In 2002 he composed the soundtrack of Cose di questo mondo (This World) by Michael Winterbottom winning the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. In 2004 Terry Gilliam asked him to compose the music for The Brothers Grimm. Marianelli was nominated for an Oscar for best soundtrack in 2006 for the film Pride and Prejudice. In 2008 he won the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Original Score for the film Atonement. In 2013 he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Score for the music of the film Anna Karenina.
